"KAABA" is a video projection installation using a set of four projectors and four-sided, cube-shaped screens. The title, "KAABA," is an acronym of "Kaleidoscopic, Amplifying, Abstract, Binary, Algorithm," but it also refers to the famous Islamic holy site in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which has a similar cubic structure, though is thoroughly different in terms of size and cultural/religious implication. Based on another series of photographic work, "Pixchart," which is topological exploration into geometry and colors using seemingly random colored boxes emerging from Google's image search on the web, the four projected images in "KAABA" constantly change and mesmerize the observer with peculiarly abstract visual experience. Photographic work titled "Fictum" is an improvisational montage of images of cities taken in various parts of Japan. By reconstructing images of different times, places, perspectives, and distances into a seemingly connected panorama, the supposedly unconnected landscape will be emerged as a single scene with an illusion. It is another quintessential example of Takashi Suzuki's ongoing geometrical visual experiment, pushing the envelope of photography.
