Among the works featured in this exhibition is "Father and the US Army - Portraits" (2013-2019), a collection of 16 pieces recounting memories of the US military from the initial encounter in Hokkaido in 1945, through the Korean War, and up to the period of active duty of KATUSA(Korean Augmentation To the United States Army) in 1958. This series of portraits stems from an interesting collaboration where the artist sought out commercial painters around the Pyeongtaek US military base—artists known for drawing portraits of US soldiers. These artists were commissioned to paint character portraits in their own style from the existing work "Father and the US Army" (2005-2009). "Father and the US Army - Portraits" initiates a dialogue between different memories, calling upon associated memories in the process. By juxtaposing our era with the past, this body of work brings to the fore long-forgotten realities, offering a another perspective on our shared history.
